Substance Disorder Prevention Programs

Programs that attempt to reduce the incidence of specific types of substance use issues, such as dependence to alcohol or other drugs, through a variety of targeted educational interventions in situations where prevention is a realistic option. The programs help people understand underlying influences involved, their impact on the lives of individuals and families, the risk factors and warning signs, and sources of treatment and support that are available in the community. Targeted prevention focuses on individuals at risk before harmful use develops.
